Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children
As outlined in the Council's Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children Strategy 2017-2019, we aim to ensure that UASC receive timely and personalised support appropriate to their individual learning needs. Surrey Virtual School have compiled a toolkit, which brings together information and guidance in a range of areas linked to the education of this vulnerable group, including signposts to existing good quality resources where appropriate. The toolkit is designed for a wide audience of social workers, personal advisors, Foster Carers and educational settings, each of whom has an important role in supporting the progress of UASC.
Each unaccompanied asylum seeking child has his or her own story to tell. Surrey County Council is committed to ensuring that every child is SEEN, SAFE and HEARD, and this initiative aims to ensure that education is a priority in the care UASC receive.
